Ovid-Elsie High School is partnering with Educatius to bring international students to our community!
Students representing Spain, Italy, and Vietnam have been matched with wonderful families in our community. There are three more students wanting to come to the school if we can find families quickly!
See more information below, as well as links to their letters to future host families!
Gabriel from Brazil (12th grade male)
His favorite hobby is to draw, doodle, and attend drawing class. He loves dogs and his family has four of them. He likes being creative and wants to be an actor when he grows up.
Uyen from Vietnam (12th grade female)
Goes by her nickname, Anne. She loves being with her family and having barbeques on the weekend. She is very interested in physics, technology and is excited to make American friends.
Napat from Thailand (12th grade female)
Very active in school sports. She does team jump rope and plays badminton. She plays the Thai flute and likes to practice English cursive.
Educatius host families receive a $400 monthly stipend to offset the costs of hosting and training/local support to serve in this role successfully, and Educatius students pay our school partner's tuition and come with spending money and health insurance.
Note: Our students can share a bedroom with a host sibling or other international student as long as they are the same gender and within 3 years of age from each other.
Not ready to commit to the full school year? A short-term option to host as a Welcome Family is available where the family signs up to host for the first 1-2 months then the student transitions into a permanent home for the remainder of the school year. This is a great way to try out hosting and allows the student an opportunity to come to our community.
The students will be arriving mid-August (less than two weeks) so it's important we get families signed up now.
If this doesn’t work for your family this year, help spread the word in our community! We offer a $200 host family referral!
For more information about this unique opportunity, contact experienced Local Coordinator, Tracy Somers, at 989-666-7943 or Educatius Regional Manager, Erin Freshour, at 616-301-4241 today!

Say hello to parent-teacher chat and classroom announcements in the Ovid-Elsie app. This year it will be easier than ever to stay up-to-date with the district, schools, AND with your student’s teachers and classes. "Congratulations- You've been selected to represent Michigan at the World Food Prize Global Youth Institute!" was the beginning of an exciting email sent to three OEHS students. Lilian Bates, McKenzie Keck, and Alyson Moore are headed to Des Moines, Iowa this October as Michigan delegates. These students wrote extensive research papers in English I and then had to go through an interviewing process to be selected for this all-expenses paid opportunity sponsored by the Michigan Youth Institute, MSU, and 4-H. Students will be taking part in a summit where they will present their research and discuss their findings with international experts and peers from around the world. They will also participate in a wide variety of engaging sessions that will be held as part of the 2023 Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue.
